No Kelly biography

Alexei Litovchenko Ned Kelly is such an Australian robber who robbed banks and killed the police in the 19ths of the 19th century, for which he was hanged. By many in Australia, he is considered a national hero, a fighter with a colonial regime, although there is an alternative point of view: they executed a criminal. Born in the family of Irish immigrants, stamping constantly observed and suffered the arbitrariness of the British authorities.

In his youth he beat a policeman who intended to arrest him for the theft of a horse, although he did not steal any horse, and went to jail. He served, returned to his family. Then there was a fateful conflict with the participation of a constable named Fitzpatrick. As a result of the conflict, the constable was slightly crippled, the mother fell to the bars, and Neda Kelly and his brother Dan and several comrades went on the run.

And went and went. The robberies, robberies, the murders of law enforcement officials and other atrocities were made everywhere, which, however, was justified by an active civil position and found hot support among the people. Glory to the Irish resistance, Down with the oppression of the peasants by Victorian imperialism and all that. Gang members wore fashionable iron armor to protect against bullets and create a memorable image, and also burned bank mortgages to strengthen the popularity of the "electorate".

But everything ended sadly. Even a petition, signed by tens of thousands of citizens, did not help. Filted by the motives - that is, in a very free retelling - Peter Carey’s novel written without observance of punctuation rules, which makes reading a difficult test, the film is ironically preceded by the words: “None of what you will see is not true,” as if removing any responsibility from Kurzel and the involved in any responsibility.

The reason for this prudence will soon be clarified: the established myth Justin Kurzel turns inside out, representing Ned Kelly a psychopath with a short mind and obvious tendencies to homosexuality. The biography of Ned Kelly George McCay begins from his childhood, furnished in the traditions of the colonial Gothic: meager for the vegetation of the prairie, lonely houses and poverty of Irish settlers, adjacent to the luxury of the English landowning aristocracy.

The mother of Ned, a beautiful woman with an extremely bad character, is engaged in the provision of sexual services and constantly saws the spouse. He tells the disease that his father was repeatedly seen on a horse galloping at night at a horse in a red dress. The dress is looking for and betraying the fire, but fixation on changing clothes to the female will pursue him until the end of days.

Mother plays Essi Davis, and here she is significant, just fatal. It is because of her that Kelly is tormented by guilt for his father’s subsequent death, does not receive a good education, she sells him to the bandit Harry Pauer Russell Crowe to the heap so that he blinds the real Bushrainger from her son. And Kelly's Neda dies, in fact, also because of her. At the same time, the role of the lawlessness created by police is reduced and, as a result, almost completely reduces to the atrocities of one constel Fizpatrik Nicholas Holt.

Accordingly, a noble motive for the confrontation between injustice also disappears. Behind the scenes, the necessary minimum is still pronounced about oppression and resistance, but in reality we see how the poor young man was brought to a nervous breakdown specifically two people. The first for a long and methodically shaking the psyche of his own offspring, the second - Fitzpatrick just twisted around him a miniature but inventive soap opera, where Ned Kelly, his sister, brother and mother, as well as her hahal, a young prostitute and her son, involved.

The denouement of this soap opera damages completely and irrevocably fragile mind. In this regard, the episode is especially indicative when Ned Kelly, who only stepped on the war path, collides in the forest with a small detachment sent to his soul. The episode is real, and in previous interpretations it was such a turning point: Ned Kelly that performed by Mik Jagger, that performed by the hit of Ledger does not plan to take sin to the soul, but, alas, the circumstances are different.

A shot in response to a shot - and that’s it, there is no road back. Ned Kelly George McCay consciously goes to combat baptism, cruelly and mercilessly dealing with enemies. Thus, the formation of not a people's avenger, but a frantic rebel, is finalized. In the "Joker", a comparison with which it suggests itself, there is a similar scene - where the earned madman Arthur Fleck first launches weapons, after which he experiences a surge of joyful emotions.

But the film of Todd Phillips is good, which can be interpreted from two directly opposite positions. The film by Justin Kurzel does not imply such doubles, since he, first of all, is not about the social tension and the personal class struggle of a small person, but, as was said, about the debunking of the myth - a myth about the personal class struggle that arose due to social stress.

And in the process of debunk, this myth is replaced by another myth.An entertaining fact: one of the prominent researchers of the Ned Kelly phenomenon was Colin Cave, his father no less than the most famous Australian Nika Kave. Colin Cave participated in creating a book called "Ned Kelly: Man or Myth." The name is Nick Cave subsequently adapted for a short time for himself. Such a chain of coincidences is possibly random, but symbolic.

Since Justin Kurzel draws Ned Kelly, nevertheless, not just a crazy brutal maniac, but - not least - a kind of punk idol x, who collect the same dissatisfied and evil young people around him. They despise the foundations and orders, wear dresses, not too convincingly denying sexual connotation, and when they do not wear dresses, they run naked. They protest against the system, invent their movement an ideological base, called the "sons of Siva", hate cops and practice a marginal lifestyle.

Ned Kelly Genderno identifies himself as an American battleship "Monitor" and prefers the company of nominally lover of a girl to tightly pressed a naked torso to the body of a best friend. And all this is under a characteristic guitar growl, of course. Therefore, exactly a hundred years later, Kelly could well learn to beat the strings and hang out with Iggy Pop and Johnny Rotten, which George McCay, by the way, is actively imitating.

And we would now know his gang as an important musical team from the distant past - at least some Dead Boys caliber. Well, most likely, they would still not have lived for a long time and died young, but for completely different reasons. Such a myth of Kelly offers us Justin Kurzel to replace the generally accepted: he was not a hero, of course, but only a dirty punk, which was a little missing centuries.

No Kelly biography

It is only a pity that Kurzel spent much more effort and time on deconstruction than to creation.
