The play was set up in Leningrad, but it had no success. The story of this and the playwright in the memoirs of his children and contemporaries is told in the documentary “Alexei Arbuzov. He replied: “I did not write a single negative character.
I was going to do this several times, I thought: I finally write, but, as soon as I began to understand him, I forgave him his sins, and the forgiven one, he ceased to be negative. In his plays there is always something added to a household history, suggesting some unusual turn. He was a very observant writer. The author himself openly admitted that he often writes the roles “on actors”, as they wrote in the old days.
Dramaturs create characters, believing them with life. Arbuzov also created roles, that is, characters verified by theatrical convention. The first great success came with the play “Tanya”, which the playwright dedicated to his wife Tatyana Evtheeva-Arbuzova. During his work on the play, Arbuzov thought about Maria Babanova, constantly held her image in her head, because it was her who saw her as Tanya.
And at the same time he was afraid of her reaction. Maria Babanova was not only one of the most famous actresses in Moscow, but also a person who deeply understands the theater. The premiere took place in the year of the Revolution Theater, now it is the Vladimir Mayakovsky Theater. The actress played the main role in it, and the image of the main character Tanya instantly gained the widest popularity.
Later, in the year, the playwright processed the play in order to strengthen, make Tanya's image more convincing. The recording of this unique performance is preserved only in the sound. The image of Tanya, her joy and the sorrows of love, her riddles and disappointments again and again revive on theatrical scenes today. Alexey Nikolaevich Arbuzov wrote a lot and fruitfully, he created a large number of plays in the 30s.

The Royal Shakespearean Theater first accepted the Soviet play for the production - it was an “old -fashioned comedy”. Talent, the intuition of the playwright helped him not limit himself to the momentary requirements of the time.
He looked into the soul of man and approved the attitude of respectful and respectful to this soul. He also formulated his understanding of the main struggle that goes in life and seeking reflection on the stage: "The most interesting contractions that may be in the play are the fights of a person with himself."
