Bruno Liliefort Biography
The blog about Sweden through the eyes of the immigrant with elements of self-irony, criticism and the information-analytical component, telling about different aspects of the life of the Swedish society on June 23, Bruno Liliefort-an artist who “just draws animals” today I decided to start a series of stories about Swedish art and my beloved Swedish masters. Such an easy art history tour without cluttering dates and events, just my impressions of creativity, nothing more.
So, do not judge strictly, I will start with the most unexpected discovery in Swedish art, with Bruno Liliefors. Bruno Liliefors-one of the most prominent artists of animalists, was born in the Swedish city of Uppsala, graduated from the Stockholm Academy of Arts. Since childhood, he loved wildlife very much, and spent a lot of time outside the city, in the forests and near the river.
He preferred to portray animals and birds in a natural habitat for them, including during hunting, can also often be found in his works the motive of the victim and predator. The artist himself loved to repeat, telling about his works that "I just draw animals." However, the masters are rightfully called the great painter of wildlife, since in his works the natural scenes united with the skill of realistic impressionism, complementing and deepening the impressions.
I can’t say that I am a great lover of animalism and impressionism in art, rather the opposite, however, some masters and works of these directions simply inspire me and revive me. Among these masters, of course, Bruno Liliefort is the leader. And I also love birds very much, not some specific, and birds are generally like a species of the animal world, and here Bruno Lilierfort has no equal in the image of forest birds.
I became interested in his work precisely after I saw one of his owls in the book on the history of art. This photo was taken by me at the Goetheborg Art Museum: and when she began to study his work, she found for herself a few more delightful "bird" works. Of course, the birds are quite important, but not the only topic in his work, however, his first work in the genre of animalism is a hawk and a partridge that is located in the Stockholm National Museum.
In the center of the snow landscape - the birds captured with each other, how much impression and expressiveness in these images, how much passion and desire to live! And what are his ducks! Just indescribably delightful ducks, Liliefors, created a wonderful series of works with foxes in the snow. Such an amazing combination of color and shape, I would even say that snow and furs that even peacefully sitting in the snow foxes look very dynamic, and the paintings are full of action, if not now, then the future, it seems that at the next moment the fox will run for prey, or play with another fox, the artist traveled a lot in Europe, and spent a long time in France, in Paris, from the same - from the same time - Impressionist inspiration in his works, and following the style of ar-nuvo, which is reflected in the choice of the artist of the color scheme for his works, and the use of color effects.
In addition, Lilierforts is one of the few artists of that time, depicting nature without moral background and religious content, but simply “including” the viewer in the process of contemplation of wildlife and the living world, everyday, beautiful and sometimes cruel. This is the story of the magnificent master and his animals. Photos are taken from the Internet.
