As the artist admitted in a letter to his sister, he really did not learn to draw. But he did not refuse a big dream. After graduating from the seminary, Boris Kustodiev went to conquer Moscow, but did not go through the age of age to art school.

Therefore, he went to the capital and successfully passed exams to the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Here he was taught by an idol of childhood - Ilya Repin. Naturally, Boris became the best student of Repin, who connected the student to the creation of 27 portraits for the monumental "solemn meeting of the State Council." And in the summer of the year, sketches occurred in the Kostroma province, where Boris Kustodiev met his future wife.

They married 3 years later and, after graduation from the Academy, went on a trip to Europe, visiting France and Spain. Kustodiev earned funds: for the “Bazaar in the village”, written in the year, he was given a gold medal and the right to “pensioner” voyage. Unfortunately, the picture has not yet been preserved. Returning to his homeland, the artist bought the land, built a house on it and began to search for his own place in painting.

The main goal was to develop a unique style. He writes bright and rich landscapes, combines portraits with the background of nature and the household genre, and creates spectacular works with the philistine-domestic and peasant plot. The artist works in realism and modern, uses oil, gouache and tempor, reproduces Russian Parsun and Lubok. And, in the end, he developed a kind of drawing manner - it was an ironic stylization of merchant and folk life with puffy and ruddy Russian beauties, stately men and cheerful fair festivities.

Kustodiev worked a lot in the theater - he created scenery and sketches for costumes for the Moscow Art Theater, Big and Academic Theaters. And after the October Revolution, he successfully fit into new realities and formalized Petrograd to celebrate the first anniversary, drawing basts, paintings and posters. The last 15 years of his life, Boris Mikhailovich spent in a wheelchair, but if he could not only walk at the beginning, then in the year it was about the mobility of his hands.

So the artist’s health reacted to the spinal cord tumor, which, however, did not affect the internal filling of Kustodiev paintings - during the illness, the master created his most interesting and temperamental works. And who would have thought that Boris Kustodiev wrote them lying, suffering from pain and restoring the body after the most difficult operations? The artist died on May 26 in Sovetsky Leningrad, not having lived only 10 days before receiving a foreign passport, according to which he was supposed to go to Germany for treatment.

Boris Kustodiev painted the most famous paintings by Boris Kustodiev, investing in them all his inexhaustible optimism and love of life. Light and life -affirming, they are filled with warm, healthy humor and hope. Among them: “Beauty” - the work harmoniously combines national romanticism, neoclassicism and Lubok. Exhibit from the Tretyakov Gallery. Chaliapin, who highly appreciated the work, immediately bought it and took it to France. Kustodiev made a reduced copy that is stored in the Russian Museum. The original portrait of the daughter of Chaliapin was transferred to the Leningrad Theater Museum, and is currently exhibited at the House-Museum of the legendary opera singer. The proposed picture is located in the State Russian Museum, a reduced copy is exhibited in the Tretyakov Gallery.
